A chip smaller than a quarter, or a crack shorter than a dollar bill and out of your line of sight, almost always gets repaired rather than replaced. Once a crack reaches the edge of the pane, keeps spreading, or sits somewhere you look through every day, the pane comes out instead.
Chip repairs are usually a same day job. Cut-to-fit residential glass and tempered door panels typically take a day or two once the correct glass is measured and ordered.

Is the 24 hour line actually answered around the clock?
Yes. It rings to the crew, not to a service that takes a message and calls you back in the morning. If it is 2 a.m. and your slider is shattered, that is who picks up.
